Floyd
P. Johnson, 69, of Jonesboro died Monday, Dec. 27, at his residence. Johnson continued to serve as police chief after the City Council abolished the position of public safety director earlier this year. |
|
He had
previously served as sheriff of Craighead County from 1967 until 1988,
having served 11 terms, longer than any other sheriff in the county's
history. As sheriff he helped establish the Arkansas Sheriffs' Boys and
Girls Ranch, located near Bates-ville, and lead the state in
contributions to the ranch for five consecutive years. He served on the
ranch board of directors for five years and was honored with a life
membership to the board. |

Floyd Johnson will be greatly missed by so many.
Any one that ever had the chance to meet Floyd knew that you could not help but
like him. He also had a way about him that commanded respect. One of the most
respected persons I have had the privilege of knowing. I was fortunate enough to
have known Mr. Johnson for about 10 years. One of the things I remember he would
always say at the end of our phone conversations, "We appreciate you."
and I always knew he meant it. There is a great cowboy in heaven that we will
all miss.
God bless,
Clint Jackson
